We had an interesting MYF meet on this topic.
What about it, do you ask?
The following is a compilation of the thoughts garnered from the discussion.
Being relevant to others in life and witness is one of the key factors in keeping a effective testimony to people. Sometimes we might appear as a circus show like the infamous video "Ken Lee-Bulgarian Idol" now garnering in excess to 20million views on youtube, just because we do not connect to the person we are sharing with. And how do we stay relevant?
"We need to be in the world but not of the world" Staying connected with what happens around you is necessary. Being oh-so-holy and aloof from what is happening in the world just turns people off.
"We need to listen" Listening before we open our big fat mouths is important. Sometimes, the person has left obvious clues on what is the big thing that is happening in their life, but we, unfortunately fail to listen and as a result lose opportunities to speak into their lives.
"We need to show genuine care and love in spite of everything" The hardest part of the gospel that many fellow Christians fail to do successfully. We need to love and care with the love of Christ to everyone regardless of background, race, religion, etc... What if the person is someone 'yucky' like homosexuals??? Same goes to them. - Accept the individual but not their actions.
Of course, there are many others, like showing to people that you are human as much as they are - something Hollywood tries hard to avoid. And so i leave you with this question - Are you relevant to people, or not? For that matter, how is God relevant to YOU?
